On this page I’ll keep track of my current setup and show you the hard- and software that I’m using. This is a curated list of items, so the list will change over time as I might add new software or build/buy new hardware. I’m mostly interested in flying with the 747-8 series, so you won’t find many (if any!) other aircraft here.
I’ll use this list mostly as a curated list so I know what I got from where or from who 🙂
Hardware
- Core i5-6600 CPU @ 3.30 GHz
- 32 GB memory (2x 16 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHz (currently running at 2133 MHz)
- 540 GB SSD
Nvidia Geforce 780Ti 3 GBAsus ROG Radeon RX580 8GB- Saitek Pro Flight Yoke
- Saitek extra throttle quadrant
- Saitek Switch Panel
- Saitek Radio Panel
- Saitek Multi Panel
Software
The list of software contains items that are installed locally on my computer. Some are freeware or open source, others require a paid license. If I’d want to rebuild my setup, I’d really need this list! Regarding licenses, my advise would be: store them somewhere safe, make sure you can access them even when you don’t have access to the data on your system for whatever reason!
Note: Right now X-Plane 11.50 beta 3 is out, which supplies Vulkan as a rendering engine. I am also checking out the new online flying network called POSCON. POSCON only provides a Windows client at the moment, so I switched back to Windows 10 for now.
- X-Plane 11.33r2 (build 113302 64-bit) ($) – https://www.x-plane.com/
- Arduino et al:
- Little Navmap – Super versatile program, I use it to show the current flightplan and enroute data
- Navigraph:
- Orbx Central – To install and manage my Orbx products
- Arq ($) – https://www.arqbackup.com/ Not really part of the flightsim setup, but I use this software to backup my desktop to ‘the cloud’, with client side encryption <3
Plugins
I use the following plugins in my setup:
Dataref Editor– So datarefs can be looked up and altered (replaced by DataRefTool)- DataRefTool – A really great alternative to the Dataref Editor, allows to filter on commands/datarefs, spot changes by colored lines, etc. (a must have when tinkering with commands and datarefs!)
- Better Pushback (look for the .zip download link)
- FlyWithLua – Offers a rapid development system to get in deep into X-Plane
- New Water Set 1.0.1 – Replaces the tiled XP11 water with custom water that looks more natural
- TeensyControls – The plugin for the Teensy boards
- XACARS – I use this to fly with my VA (Virtual Airline), it tracks my flights
- Xchecklist – A checklister plugin that enables per-aircraft checklists, features automatic checking of items
- X-RAAS – Runway Awareness and Advisory System
- Xsaitekpanels – Enables the use of all Saitek Panels within X-Plane, highly customizable
Aircraft
- Supercritical Simulation Group Boeing 747-8 Series (v1) ($) – I have the dual package that contains the
747-8i Intercontinental Advanced as well as the 747-8F Freighter.
