Set camera angles in X-Plane (quick look)
September 08, 2019This weekend I was watching a YouTube video about the cold and dark startup of SSG’s B748. The video was really informative and I might write about that later, but what was a real eye-opener was the configuration of camera angles within X-Plane.
The author of this video was switching really fast between the FMC, overhead panel and other views. I thought I had overlooked shortcuts for these views, so I had a look at the documentation (to no avail). I then asked the YouTube author about the fast switching between views, and he responded swiftly to my question.
What are these quick looks?
The answer was provided in another video he made that I hadn’t seen yet. Since this information will save me a LOT of time setting up the 748 for a flight, I thought I’d share it here as well. If not for others, for myself at least 🙂
Be sure to check out the linked document in the description of the video, it might provide inspiration for your presets. You’ll need a keyboard with a numeric keypad for all of this though!
How to transfer quick look configurations
The quick look configurations are stored in a plane-specific preferences file. In my case, I was configuring quick looks for the B748 freighter. The file containing the configuration was SSG_B748-F_11_prefs.txt. I just had to copy this file to my Ubuntu X-Plane installation to have them working in that setup as well. Nice!
